Netflix Launches Fast.com
No Frills Internet Speed Diagnostic Tool
This week the good folk’s at Netflix launched a new internet line speed checker tool Fast.com, it’s a simple no frills tool to check your download line speed to the Netflix servers.
This is a great move on their part as it allows for a more accurate diagnosis that summarises your connection speed to the Netflix servers. Other services like Speedtest.net and the Telkom speed test tool are great but ISP’s usually prioritise your internet connection to these servers to give you a very bias representation of your actually line speed.
Lightweight
The diagnostic tool is also very lightweight and seems to be based on html5 architecture appose to a Flash based system. The benefit of having a html5 backbone is that most of today’s smart TV’s and smart devices do not support Flash.
